JICA to Provide Grant Aid of $18.6 Million for DIA Improvement


Avesta.Tj | 29.09.2014 |The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide grant aid of 1.9 billion Japanese Yen ($18.6 million) to Tajikistan for improvement of technical equipment at Dushanbe International Airport (DIA), DIA administration said on Monday.


According to the DIA, the grant agreement was signed here on Monday by the Tajik Finance Minister Abdusalom Qurbonov and Hideaki Domichi the JICA Senior Vice-President for the implementation of a project at DIA.


The technical assistance involves the construction of cargo terminal and installation of instrumental landing system, precision approach lighting system at DIA.


The project will provide a safe landing system for aircraft and improve the cargo infrastructure, which is expected to improve the safe operation of aircraft and the distribution of goods. 


In addition to this project, JICA is implementing aviation security training for DIA employees, providing inclusive support for efficient operation and improved safety and reliability at the airport.


The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is an independent governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.


JICA started providing technical assistance to Tajikistan in 1991, and its representative office in Tajikistan was established in 2006.
