Increasing Domestic Production, Tajikistan Reduces Imports of Poultry Meat, Eggs

Avesta.Tj | 05.11.2014 | Increase in production of chicken meat and eggs in Tajikistan this year has led to a reduction in imports of these products from abroad, Mashokir Nazarov, the general manager of state unitary enterprise "Ptitseprom" of Tajikistan’s Agriculture Ministry said on Wednesday.

For the first ten months of this year the production of eggs and chicken meat has increased due to creation of new poultry farms in the country, according to Nazarov.

For the reported period of this year, the republic’s poultry farms produced 168.6 million eggs and 800 tons of chicken meat, which is 16.2 million eggs more compared to the same period of last year.

Nazarov said that egg imports significantly declined from the beginning of this year. A small amount of this product is coming from Russia and Iran.

If previously the large amount of eggs was imported from 12 countries, including Pakistan, India and China, now egg imports are completely stopped from these countries, Nazarov added.

He said that new factories in Dangara and Pyanj districts have already started the production of chicken meat. Another factory is expected to be commissioned soon in Yovon district. It is planned that in 2014 the production of chicken meat reaches more than 1,000 tons.

Currently, there are 63 poultry farms, operating in the country.
