Tajikistan, China’s Henan Province Sign Memorandum on Cooperation


Avesta.Tj | 07.11.2014 | Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met in Beijing on Friday with Sie Fuchjan, the governor of China’s Henan province, the Tajik presidential press service said.

During the meeting the sides agreed to closely cooperate in agriculture area. The companies of Henan province plan to launch joint agricultural processing ventures in Tajikistan.

The meeting resulted in signing of an understanding memorandum on cooperation between Tajikistan and China’s Henan Province in the fields of agriculture and industry.

According to the signed document, the China’s Henan companies will invest more than 800 million U.S. dollars in construction of farm produce processing enterprises in Tajikistan.

They will construct first flourmill, fertilizer enterprise and cook oil producing and seed processing plant.  They also plan to construct enterprise for assembling agricultural machines and producing fodders. 

Henan is a province of China, located in the central part of the country.  Henan has seen rapid development in its economy over the past two decades, and its economy has expanded at an even faster rate than the national average of 10%. 

Agriculture has traditionally been a pillar of its economy, with the nation's highest wheat and sesame output and second highest rice output, earning its reputation as the breadbasket of China.  Henan is also an important producer of beef, cotton, maize, pork, animal oil, and corn.


Henan's industry has traditionally been based on light textiles and food processing, recent developments have diversified the industry sector to metallurgy, petrol, cement, chemical industry, machinery and electronics. 

Henan has the second largest molybdenum reserves in the world.  Coal, aluminum, alkaline metals and tungsten are also present in large amounts in western Henan.  Export and processing of these materials is one of the main sources of revenues.
