Tajikistan becomes member of AIIB



Avesta.Tj | 16.01.2015 | Tajikistan became a member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The decision was made at a regular meeting of the bank's founding members that took place in Mumbai (India), on Thursday.

Tajikistan was represented by the Finance Minister Alamhon Naimi at the meeting.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is an international financial institution proposed by China. The purpose of the multilateral development bank is to provide finance to infrastructure projects in the Asia Pacific region.

China and 21 Asian countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on establishing the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in in Beijing in October 2014.

The document was inked by the representatives from Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
