Tajik PM, WB Represantative Meet on Cooperation


Avesta.Tj | 20.09.2014 |Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda met here on Friday with the World Bank (WB) country manager for Tajikistan Patricia Veevers-Carter, Tajik presidential press service said on Saturday.

At the meeting the two sides focused on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and the WB.

They expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and vowed to expand collaboration in future.

The sides also discussed the possibility of the WB participation in the implementation of a regional project CASA-1000 and other major projects.

The active WB portfolio in Tajikistan now consists of 14 projects with net commitments of US$232 million.

Tajikistan joined the World Bank in 1993 and the International Development Association (IDA) in 1994. 

Since 1996, the World Bank has provided US$ 955 million in IDA credits, grants, and trust funds to improve people’s lives in Tajikistan.

This financing aims to support the government in the following key areas: agriculture, rural development, economic policy, public sector, energy, water, health, education, and social protection.
