Tajikistan, Japan Mull Cooperation Issues


Avesta.Tj | 13.11.2014 | Tajik president Emomali Rahmon met here on Wednesday with Kentaro Sonoura, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan, according to the presidential press release Thursday.


During the meeting the sides discussed the issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.


Highly assessing the current level of Tajik-Japanese relations, president Rahmon said that Tajikistan is interested in further expansion of cooperation with Japan.


Emomali Rahmon also estimated Japan’s support for socioeconomic development in Tajikistan. He highlighted that for the past 20 years Japan supported to implement more than 300 social projects in Tajikistan.


The sides also agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in such areas as: trade, economic, education, science and health.


Kentaro Sonoura is a Japanese politician serving in the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislature) as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.


A native of Takamatsu, Kagawa and graduate of the University of Tokyo, he was elected for the first time in the 2005 general election.
