President Rahmon congratulates Tajik people on National Flag Day

Avesta.Tj | 24.11.2014 | Tajik president Emomali Rahmon congratulated Sunday the people of Tajikistan on a National Flag Day, which is marked in the country on November 24, the presidential press service said Monday.

In his televised statement, President Rahmon said that fostering patriotism, national self-consciousness and respect for spiritual values and national shrines is one of the key factors of sustainability of an independent state.

He also stressed that respect for national shrines and state symbols, including the national flag, is a component part of civil responsibility of each member of society.

"Tajik national flag’s colors represent the centuries-old fight of the Tajik people for independence, self-knowledge and prosperity,” the Tajik president said.

Tajikistan, the former Soviet Central Asian republic, got its new flag in 1992.

The red-white-green tricolor symbolizes freedom, peace and prosperity.

In the center is a crown with a semi-circle of seven stars signifying the seven historical and cultural centers of the Tajik people.
