Tajik president meets with Russian counterpart in Ufa


Avesta.Tj | 09.07.2015 | Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Wednesday in Ufa, capital of Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan, the Tajik presidential press service said Thursday.

Appreciating the close cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia, Putin said that last year, trade between the two countries went up by more than 21 percent, in spite of difficult economic situation.

He also noted qualitative work of Tajikistan as the chair country of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). "Many important events were held in Tajikistan and military drills were conducted successfully”, Putin said.

President Rahmon, for his part, said "Tajikistan and Russia are strategic partners and our priority is the development of the relationship between our nations.”

During the meeting the sides also discussed issues related to expansion of biletaral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politic, security, defense, economy, trade, investment, science, technology and culture.

A special attension was paid to security on the Tajik-Afghan border and the treatment of migrant workers from Tajikistan in Russia.
