Indian PM arrives in Tajikistan for state visit


Avesta.Tj | 13.07.2015 |Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here Sunday evening for a two-day state visit to Tajikistan.

Modi was greeted by Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda at the Dushanbe International Airport (DIA).

During his stay in Dushanbe, Modi is expected to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The agreements will also be signed after the talks.

Modi will also visit one of military units in the southern province of Khatlon and unveil a bust of Nobel Prize-winning Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Tagore was the first Asian to win the award, in 1913, which was for his collection of poems titled Gitanjali.

The last visit of Indian Prime Minister to Tajikistan was by Atal Bihari Vajpayee in November, 2003.
