The head of the Energy Charter did not rule out the possibility of participation of member countries in implementing the project CASA-1000

As reported by "Avesta" in the department to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and prospects for participation of the organization in the implementation of hydropower projects in Tajikistan. 


According to a source, a Tajik diplomat said that to ensure economic and social development, Tajikistan needs electricity. 


"Noting that in the absence of hydrocarbons, the only energy source is hydropower, Soliev stressed that the realization of projects on construction of small, medium, and especially Rogun fully meets the national interests of Tajikistan and contributes to the economic development of the state, as well as other countries in the region particularly Afghanistan and Pakistan ", - said the source. 


According to him, the ambassador drew the attention of the interlocutor of the fact that small and medium hydropower is not completely satisfy the energy needs of the republic, and noted that the economic and social development of the region to regional project CASA-1000. 


"Soliev called the Energy Charter and its Member States to participate in the above project", - stressed the Foreign Ministry of the Republic. 


"Kuneralp, in turn, supported the aspirations of the Tajik people to use their natural resources for the benefit of the development of Tajikistan, and did not rule out the possibility of participation of the Member States of the Energy Charter in a regional project CASA-1000", - concluded the source. 


Regional CASA-1000 project provides for the transfer of electricity produced in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan via Afghanistan. 


Last week in Dushanbe meeting of representatives of energy agencies in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan on the investment and the timing of the project CASA-1000. 


Addressing the audience, 1st Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry of Tatarstan Pulod Mukhiddinov noted that at present the first phase of the project, including a feasibility study for the project. 


"According to a feasibility study, to be built high-voltage power line, a length of about 1 thousand kilometers from the territory of Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and ending with," - said Mukhiddinov. 


According to him, according to a feasibility study for the entire transmission line will be built three major substations. "The project is estimated at $ 950 million", - said the deputy minister. 


According to him the project will be implemented over 4 years, and the project is scheduled to begin in 2012. "At the beginning of Tajikistan will be able to export in the summer about 6 billion kilowatt / hours of electricity. Gradually, the export of Tajik electricity to Pakistan will grow up to 4 MW "- sure Mukhiddinov. 


He noted that the project have expressed interest and are willing to fund a number of international financial institutions and individual countries. 


According to the developers of the feasibility study on the CASA-1000 project is advantageous from both an economic and an environmental point of view. Recall CASA-1000 project involves the export of electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. 


Tajikistan has set itself the goal of achieving energy independence through Rogun hydroelectric, against whom, as well, and CASA-1000 project, serves neighboring Uzbekistan. 


Previously, its intention to fund this regional project said the Russian side, said he was ready to invest in it hundreds of millions of dollars.
