EDB and Tajikistan are discussing the possibility of participation in the modernization of the Bank of the Nurek hydroelectric power station


Avesta.Tj | 29.11.2011 | Delegation of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), headed by the deputy chairman of the Kambarov Shalgimbayeva based in Dushanbe on a working visit, held talks with Prime Minister of Tajikistan Akil Akilov.


As reported by "Avesta" the press service of the EDB, the Tajik side in the talks also attended by the heads of economic, financial and energy Block of the republic, as well as Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, and Senior Advisor to the President on Economic Policy Negmatjon Buriev.


The source said that during negotiations the parties discussed the trends and prospects of the investment activity of EDB in the Republic of Tajikistan, including through the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund (ACF). The focus was the possibility of raising funds to ACF and the Bank of the investment project "Rehabilitation of the Nurek hydroelectric power station."


Nurek, which provides more than three quarters of Tajikistan's electricity needs, is in urgent need of rehabilitation based on the modernization of the main and auxiliary equipment with advanced technology.


Station equipment, which requires modernization includes electrical and hydro mechanical equipment, control systems, automation and diagnostics. This 3000 MW hydroelectric power plant was commissioned in 1972, and the last unit plant was commissioned in 1979.


In this regard, in 2010, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has classified the project as a priority in the energy sector for 2010-2015. Estimated project cost is approximately $ 300 million


One of the options discussed was to attract the financing of the investment credit from the ACF with the placement of orders for main and auxiliary equipment at the enterprises of member countries.
