UN Secretary General Welcomes Preliminary Assessment on Rogun Project

Avesta.Tj | 24.06.2014 | UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the publication of the WB’s (World Bank) preliminary examination on Rogun project in Tajikistan, the UN news center reported on June 19.

According to Ban Ki-moon words, the document is an important guide, for the region countries, to hold talks on the problems of water and energy resources.

The Secretary-General is aware of the obstacles faced the States of Central Asia on the way to ensuring their energy needs, and appreciates the efforts of WB's independent examination.

The Secretary-General called for the governments of Central Asian countries to join in constructive discussion on the issues of transboundary water resources and avoid unilateral steps.

Ban Ki-moon is sure that the negotiations will help to find the universal and balanced decision, taking into account the interests of all region states.

He reminded that the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and its leader Miroslav Jenca are ready to support the parties.
