Tajikistan and U.S. checked the plans for Afghanistan

Avesta.Tj | 07.10.2011 | President Rahmon today received October 7, Dushanbe Special Representative of the U.S. administration about Afghanistan and Pakistan, Marc Grossman.


The press office of the President: The meeting discussed current issues and prospects of Tajik-American cooperation, including in the security sphere.


The two sides condemned the terrorist attacks taking place recently in Afghanistan, including murder Burkhaniddin Rabboni, General Dovud, the governor of Kunduz province, Mohammad Omar, the leader Wali Karzai in Kandahar and other influential personalities of Afghan politics.


Marc Grossman informed the president about the U.S. initiative to revive the New Silk Road and the preparations for two upcoming international conferences on Afghanistan, scheduled for November and December this year in the cities of Istanbul (Turkey) and Bonn (Germany).


According to Grossman, the purpose of these conferences, as well as the revival of the New Silk Road is to promote economic reconstruction and peace and stability in Afghanistan by engaging in the process of Afghanistan's neighbors.


New plan to revive the Silk Road provides a connection of energy and transport lines in Central and South Asia, including through the power line CASA-1000, gas pipelines, roads and railways.


Rakhmon supported this initiative and expressed readiness of the Tajik parties to participate actively in its implementation, in particular, to restore peace and stability in Afghanistan, and the further development of the region.


Both sides agreed that assistance in addressing the socio-economic problems of Afghanistan, the implementation of existing projects, industrial enterprises, construction of roads and railways, job creation will solve many accumulated problems in this country.
