The Government of the RT is considering the construction complex Rogun project

It should be noted the continued leadership position in the Tajik part of that implementation of hydropower projects, and the first completion of Rogun, shall take into account national and regional interests in this matter Tajikistan is ready for close cooperation with its neighbors. This was no time was stated by President Emomali Rahmon, including from the stands 63 and 64 sessions of the UN General Assembly, as well as the Copenhagen summit on climate change and other international forums on water issues in recent years "- said in a statement.


"The technical ability, economic profitability, environmental safety Rogun tested many times and not once this project has not received a negative assessment, but the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, expressing good will and a desire for an open and transparent dialogue with all interested parties approached the World Bank, which is represented as authorized by the UN structure, to conduct another independent international examination of the project completed construction of power plants, "- says the government statement.


"In response to this request, supported by the World Bank successfully conducted a feasibility study (FS) and the assessment of the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) and in parallel there are two groups of independent international experts, one on the techno-economic and safety of the dam, and the second on social and environmental aspect, "- said the government of Tajikistan.


The statement notes that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan cooperates with international consultants, a group of international experts, the World Bank and the public downstream countries on the results of the above studies.


"These studies cover a wide range of issues, including security, payback period required to fill the reservoir, water management, social and environmental impacts and therefore should not cause any concerns voiced by some parties" - the document says.


"The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in coordination with international consultants, a group of experts and specialists of the World Bank is considering construction of a complex project, and about any intermediate stage of construction of the first hydroelectric power station out of the question," - said in a statement.


The Tajik government has said that Tajikistan strongly supports international consultants to successfully complete the assessment and waiting for the results of international expertise, while leading repair work in the Rogun.


"To this day, between the consortium and the Tajik side there were no significant differences. Over all, this project Tajikistan remains committed to earlier agreements, and will adhere to the principles of transparency and corporate governance, respecting the existing rules of the World Bank, "- said in a statement.
