Afghan national detained in Tajikistan with 12kg of drug


Avesta.Tj | 15.04.2015 |Tajik authorities said Wednesday that an Afghan national was detained with a large amount of drugs in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

The 20-year-old resident of the Moi Mai village of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan Province was detained in the village of Togmai in GBAO’s Darvoz district on Tuesday, according to a press release of the Drug Control Agency (DCA).

The joint operation carried out by drug control officers and officers from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) led to the seizure of 5 packages of raw opium weighing more than 6 kg and 7 packages of cannabis weighing nearly six kg from the detainee.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug peddler and an investigation is under way.

On the same day, the DCA and SCNS officers also arrested five residents of the southern province of Khatlon on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Two kilograms of raw opium were confiscated from them, the DCA said.
