About 60 Tajik citizens killed fighting in Syria, Iraq: chief prosecutor

Avesta.Tj | 05.06.2015 | About 60 Tajik nationals were killed fighting alongside Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in Syria and Iraq.

Tajik Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon said on Thursday during his meeting with representatives of the public of Isfara, Kobnibodom and Asht in the northern province of Sughd.

The chief prosecutor also said about 300 Tajik nationals, aged 18 to 35, are fighting in Syria and Iraq, adding that 40 residents of Isfara city alone have traveled with their families to Syria and Iraq to join ISIL militants.

He called on the meeting participants to pay a special attention to education of children and not to yield to calls of terrorist organizations, stressing that such organizations now have more than 7,000 social media accounts.
