One killed, another wounded in shooting incident along Tajik-Kyrgyz border

Avesta.Tj | 07.07.2015 |Tajik presidential adviser on national security Sherali Khairulloyev arrived in Tajikistan’s northern city of Isfara to hold talks with Kyrgyz officials Tuesday on an armed conflict that occured on the previous day in a disputed area along the two countries' border.

The adviser to the Tajik Defense Minister in Sughd Province, Azam Qasimov, said that the meeting members also include the representatives of local authorities, law enforcement and security agencies of both countries.

The incident started as Kyrgyz border guards stopped a car of Tajik citizens who tried to go from the Langar Village to the Chorkuh Jamoat.

The Kyrgyz troops didn't give them permission to go to another village and opened fire, killing one Tajik citizen and wounding one Tajik border guard. The border guard underwent surgery and nothing now threatens his health.

However, the Kyrgyz border services told another story. They said six Tajik nationals crossed into Kyrgyz territory and threw stones at passing cars. The Tajik national didn't react to their demand and Kyrgyz troops have to open fire.

A total length of Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan is 910 kilometers and some 470 kilometers of the border reportedly remain disputable.
