Over 165 kg drugs destroyed in Tajikistan

Avesta.Tj | 09.07.2015 |More than 165 kg of drugs, including cannabis and hashish, were destroyed by law enforcement officers here in the Tajik capital on Thursday.

The batch of drugs came from evidence in criminal cases and consisted of 157.3 kg of cannabis and 7.8 kg of hashish, Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency (DCA) said.

The DCA officers also discovered and incinerated 2,500 bushes of wild hemp in the Tajik northern province of Sughd.

Tajikistan is often used as a transit hub for smuggling drugs from Afghanistan. It is estimated that about 20 percent of Afghanistan's opiates travel through Tajikistan.
