Lawyer of banned Tajik islamic party detained on suspicion of fraud

Avesta.Tj | 29.09.2015 | The lawyer of Tajikistan's Islamic Revival Party (IRP) Buzurgmehr Yorov was detained on suspicion of fraud and forgery, the Tajik Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

Yorov had defended several IRP leading members who were arrested earlier in September on suspicion of leading a deadly mutiny by a serving former deputy defense minister Abduhalim Nazarzoda.

Nazarzoda, was killed in a special operation on Sept. 16 after officials blamed him for attacks on the outskirts of the capital Dushanbe and in the town of Vahdat, just outside the capital.

The developments came after the country’s Justice Ministry banned the IRP in August and gave the party 10 days to halt all activities.

The IRP leader Muhiddin Kabiri has rejected the accusations against him and his party as politically motivated.

Kabiri left the country earlier this year after his party was defeated in parliamentary election.
