Tajikistan Celebrated International Youth Day


Avesta.Tj | 13.08.2014 | The International Youth Day (IYD), celebrated annually on Aug. 12, this year took place at Ismaili Centre, in Dushanbe on Aug 10 and 12, involving over thousand young people. The theme for this year’s observance of IYD is "Youth and Mental Health” under the slogan "Mental Health Matters”.


According to the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs, IYD events, the purpose of which is involvement of youth in the field of culture, education and volunteering, consist of two parts.


On Aug. 10 was the cultural part, which included Cultures of the World fair, master-classes of body-art, manufacturing handicrafts, painting (anime and graphics) and dancing. There was also showing scenes, eco-exhibition and a movie.


In another day, Aug. 12 was the educational part of the event, including the fair under the theme "Volunteering as career ladder” where various organizations (international and national) and the business sector provided opportunities for volunteering and internships, as well as jobs. In addition, workshops was conducted and presentations regarding the development and employment of Tajik youth.


International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations.  The first IYD was on 12 August 2000. As with other political awareness days, such as Earth Day, the purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding an endangered demographic.
