CAS President Visits Tajik Academy of Sciences


Avesta.Tj | 17.09.2014 | President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Professor Bai Chunli on Tuesday visited Tajikistan’s Sciences Academy, where he was accepted as the honorary foreign member, Tajik academy said on Wednesday.


The honorary membership was granted to Professor Bai Chunli by the president of Tajik Academy of Sciences Farhod Rahimi.


At the meeting with Rahimi, Bai Chunli said that the main goal of his visit is to strengthen the scientific and industrial ties between Tajikistan and China.


Visiting the Tajik Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology with Farhod Rahimi, Professor Bai Chunli got acquainted with the activities of institute, scientific achievements, stones and minerals of Tajikistan.


Moreover, Professors Rahimi and Bai visited Tajik Institute of Zoology and Parasitology, Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics, as well as the center of Tajik Academy of Sciences that is located in Kondara mountain botanical station of Varzob district.


Following the visits the sides agreed to establish a Central Asia Ecology and Environment Centre at the Tajik Academy of Sciences.


The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), with roots in China’s Academia Sinica, is the national academy for the natural sciences of China.


Collectively known as the "Two Academies” along with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, it is an institution of the State Council of China, functioning as the national scientific thinktank and academic governing body, providing advisory and appraisal services on issues stemming from the national economy, social development, and science and technology progress.


It is headquartered in Beijing, with branch institutes all over mainland China. It has also created hundreds of commercial enterprises, with Lenovo being one of the most famous.
